Well, I just got to the end of "Etiquette and Espionage" ('Finishing School - Book the First') by Gail Carriger. It was cartoonishly bad. I really thought it couldn't go wrong, with steampunk and a girls' school and vampires and werewolves, but it felt as though she'd wanted to write an anime. Absolutely no interest in actually exploring the possibilities of alternate science, it's actually all 'magic.' Nine year old kid makes a wrist-mounted device which just stops mechanical servants in their tracks. How does it work? Magic, apparently. :P But I suppose there was something at least a little bit charming about it or I wouldn't have read the whole thing.
