We have to say a sad goodbye to out old ash tree, tomorrow. Probably a victim of the emerald ash borer, it was in decline when we bought the place and we've been concerned about it dropping limbs on our heads or falling on the barn. Last summer it's highest limb provided a great place for our local red-shouldered hawk to sit, but that limb dropped during the winter.
Unfortunately, this will be the fate of all the good, large trees around the house, in the not too distant future.
We'll be grateful for the wood in the stove, eventually, but it's going to be hard to replace your shade, Ash. We salute you.
