Ms Turkey was back today. Eor doesn't think lonesomeness is usual for turkeys winter, and wonders if she is the same lone female we saw only once last year, at the feeder on the other side of the house. She seems to have decided that this is a safe place and so returned and investigated a little more about the availability of food.
Today we finished and installed two air barriers/interior storms for the fireplaces in our bedroom and the library. These will slow our warm air going up the chimney, but leave the fireplaces visible. Eor's been working on these for a while, in odd moments, so I can't say we made them today. The method is the same as one would use for windows, only he painted the frames black so they would look appropriate around a fireplace. There's one more in progress for the dining room. I feel as though the fireplaces become a display. Possibly they could be used as a display case for things. Very dusty, though, because there will forever be soot and crap filtering down from the chimney. Well, the library fireplace could perhaps be used that way. We actually have the bureau in front of the fireplace in our bedroom.
It snowed a good deal of the day, but Eor's snowblower is working great. :) I think I mentioned that we got the driveway repaved during the summer, and they did an awesome job - it's tilted just right so water banks off right where it should, it's gorgeous, flat and black. We did, however, discover one slight drawback, today. The tiny gaps in the pavement get filled with snow and when it's scraped right down nice and clean it gets slick as a skating pond.
Our laundry hasn't been smelling right, and Eor just went digging around in the washer trying to find out why. He discovered that the water wasn't draining properly because of a lot of hair filling up the drainholes.
So, yeah, a pretty relaxing day, puttering around at our own pace. And now we have au gratin potatoes in the oven and a beef roast about to go in.
