Yesterday, my 50th birthday - my Golden Jubilee as Butonquail characterized it - shall be known as The Birthday On Which I Shingled A Roof. Not a house roof, just a gently sloped shed roof, but given the heat, the biting insects and working until we needed headlamps it was all in all An Experience.

When we finally had enough fun for the evening we didn't really have the energy for a complicated dinner, so I ended up with two pancakes, two fried eggs, and half a bottle of wine.

Today I have a dental cleaning, need to pick up two more bundles of shingles, and otherwise it's dishes and laundry and hiding the mess on my desk. When Eor gets home from work we have to finish the last few courses of shingles, or at least get as much done as we can before 7pm, when our company shows up. It's Reading Night yet again, and as per tradition I have not chosen anything to read. The current book I'm reading (re-reading) is Pratchett, "Night Watch," and I'm loving the heck out of it once again, but not finding anything particular that sticks out as a good passage to read aloud.

I obviously do not have time to read fanfiction today, so I'm leaving a link here to remind myself to check out a collection of links Copperbadge posted: http://copperbadge.livejournal.com/3803337.html?mode=reply#add_comment Usually I take Copperbadge's recommendations and download them all onto my Nook to read during lunch at work, though a full lunch period with nobody interrupting me is rare these days.

I just realized that the lunch I packed yesterday is still in my bag. I guess I'll have to throw that away. And it was quite good chicken tikka masala, even if it was only from a jar. Shame. I did eat, but a microwave was not available since I was driving all day, so I grabbed a quick hot dog at a stand in Rockland which my family always traditionally frequented, Wasses. So that was my birthday treat. ;)
