Does anyone use any other social platforms that are good? I'm looking to move a currently dead group from Yahoo Groups to someplace easier to use. I want something that doesn't track you, no ads, threaded conversations, and a convention of screen names to protect privacy... basically I want Dreamwidth with the ability to post pics easily. Or is there something I'm missing about a way to post pics?

I'm also not sure how difficult posting and friending might be for someone new to Dreamwidth. It seems reasonably easy to me, but I used LiveJournal for umpteen billion years. And yet still I do get confused - I don't seem to see all the posts from people I think I've friended, here.

Most folks manage to migrate from Yahoo Groups to Google Groups fairly easily, but there will always be a learning curve with any new platform so there will be complaints.

If y'all have your own domain, you can switch to a MailMan mailing list or a forum that y'all install on your domain and put behind a password wall.

We used to run our own email lists, but I'm not really technically up for it and Eor doesn't want the hassle at this point in his life.

I'm thinking of trying to migrate my 100 users to Dreamwidth, though it's impossible for me to be sure how many of them will come. But DW does kind of bill itself as being for people who create, I don't know how they would feel about a bisexual social group that's regionally focused. (Bi In Northern New England.)

In the past, I know [staff profile] denise has done mass account migration and things for large user groups. It couldn't hurt to ask her if y'all could migrate and have a community.

Also, have you seen this place? It's basically the queerest corner of the blogosphere! I'm pretty sure everyone here is gay. Like, all of us. Except maybe [staff profile] mark, but the rest of us are hella, hella gay.
