My calendar tells me I didn't post this Friday that just went by.
I left work Thursday feeling under the weather. Almost immediately on coming home I rolled out the yoga mat on top of the hearthrug and covered myself with spare jackets and shirts. Eor kindly fetched a sleeping bag for me. I spent that evening right there, trying to suck up all the heat coming out of the wood stove, a little too uncomfortable to sleep, but every time I reached a point of relaxation that was almost sleep I'd begin coughing up a lung. Eor offered me MucinexDM at bedtime and that went down well. I slept fairly well for about 12 hours or so. Even woke up thinking I was hungry, at one point. Wandered downstairs and had toast at 3am. (I had skipped having dinner.)
Friday it developed. I spent the day reading and feeding the fire, sitting up in the comfy chair wrapped in the sleeping bag, mainly keeping myself awake in order to push fluids, because I was getting pretty dehydrated having had only like a pint of liquid in the past 20 hours or so. I did not want to drink water at all, I'm not sure why. I really had to temp myself with Ribena, various herbal teas, etc. Mostly wanted warm things, I think that was the key. Well water is too cold.
Saturday I mostly stayed in bed. I would get up every hour, have a pee and a drink, check my temperature (hovering around 100F, mostly) and lie back down. Didn't sleep a lot, too uncomfortable, but couldn't really do anything or think. In the evening the temp went up over 102F and I decided I couldn't stand it anymore and had a Tylenol. That brought it down, but I'm afraid I might have broken too soon. It's like playing a game of chicken with the germs, this business of having a fever.
Last night, though, I did finally really sweat in the night, and woke up today feeling like I could take a shower. Previously my skin had hurt so much that washing my hands was a challenge.
Today is my Monday at work, and we are seriously discouraged from calling in sick on a day in conjunction with your days off. Which I did only a few weeks ago because I had a cold (that I somewhat suspected might be strep throat, but turned out not to be). So, today I trundled my butt in to work, spoke to the manager immediately, she told me I looked like crap, and I filled out a sick slip and went home. Literally drove 30 minutes each way to stay only 15 minutes because of this crazy policy.
Anyway, long short is I am feeling better, but not well yet. Will keep on pushing fluids and staying warm.
Oh, and I DID have the flu shot. Back in September, sure, so maybe it's worn off a bit? I'm actually thinking this might have been much worse if I had not.
