The forecast is for it to be warmer, today, up to 40F, with snow and rain. Right now it's snow, coming down thick and fast. I sprinkled about 40 pounds of calcium chloride on the ice in our driveway, yesterday (and no, I'm not joking - I ran out and went out for another 50 pound bag and used most of that second bag as well) so I'm hoping that it might not be too bad under the snow. I'd hate for the guy who's been plowing to get stuck, especially since he's been doing it for free. I've sent him a $100 Home Depot gift certificate in a Christmas card, but that went out yesterday, so he hasn't seen it, yet. I had ought to go scrape the end of the driveway. I had also better get myself some food and water, as I've been awake for nearly 2 hours and haven't eaten. I wrote in my paper journal a bit, though, so it's not all bad.

Went out for lunch with Elven Girl, yesterday. We went to a place called Mother India, which was quite good. Buffet was $15, which seems a little steep, but everything tasted amazing. (I think my body might be having a delayed reaction to all the lentils I ate, though, seduced by how good they made them taste.)

And the restaurant is happily enough right across from a book/gift store, Silent City, run by someone EG knows - I think they're in roller derby together. The store features a lot of art and jewelry made by local people, including a couple of other roller derby team members (But I don't think their work is there only because they're on team - it's beautiful stuff. I was SO tempted by a wood-cut of a raven.) and some gorgeous gift cards 'assembled' by rural people from Maine who are so sick with AIDS/HIV that they can't work. I wanted ALL of those. But then I know I would hoard them and not send them out.

I say 'happily enough' because I suggested the restaurant not knowing the store was right there. It's a terrible location, though - it has only a tiny sign and you have to go down into a basement that smells of mildew. They'll be moving soon, they say. I hope the new location is more visible.

So that was a good time. EG is going a bit stir crazy with the government shut down - she has a job which has put her on furlough, so she doesn't get paid while the shutdown is ongoing (well, neither do I, but I have to work). She has roller derby and power lifting and she crochets and makes rugs, and now she's bored enough she's thinking about repainting her cellar stairs - this is a woman who doesn't like too much free time. Whereas me, I'd be like, delighted to stay home.

Well, I've just had a couple of phone calls regarding our windows that we ordered. They need to deliver them and there's a huge snow bank in front of the barn door that they would need to go in. Old snow, melted and refrozen several times. This is going to be fun. Why won't Eor let me get a flamethrower?
