I just found a trove of ancient family photos which I had long thought lost! They're in an absolutely disgustingly grossly dirty random box that I grabbed from my second-cousin's barn loft and had stuck up in my own barn a year ago, so I have been spending the past few hours just dusting off some of the grime and transferring them to a more intact box that looks like it will not let mice in to use these things as nesting materials. I may be halfway done, but it's late and I need to focus on cleaning the house tomorrow because my brother will be showing up the day after tomorrow. I'm so excited, though! So many nights I have laid awake wondering if I'd ever see this stuff again.

And of course, also overwhelmed, because the paper used by my great-aunts wasn't archival quality and is crumbling, so their hand-written accounts of who's who and what they meant to each other is rapidly being lost. My Mom made a start at re-doing the book. Several of her re-writes include notes like "I don't think Agnes was correct, here" and "I sense that there was some bad feeling between them." I love that stuff. :) She bought a huge book of archival quality paper, but she just barely got started... and all that paper is now stained and disgusting and I have to throw it out. Ditto the cover. I get to start over from scratch, with absolutely no idea of whether Agnes was wrong. Although I do recall noticing, years ago, that they had mislabled a pic of my mother as me, so they were certainly losing it when they put the original together.
