If you observed that briefly this was an entry which consisted of one dot - I was trying to get to the phone entry screen. Not much news here. Word at work is Friday the 11th we might have another government shut down, unless Congress does another continuing resolution. And Friday the 18th the mask policy is reviewed by the feds. If they decide we are no longer required to wear masks we don't know if they will continue to provide them for us, but I think they will. Last week they removed the requirement for unvaccinated people to wear face shields.

We've lost so many people to other jobs over the vaccines and face shields (which were enforced in a way that felt like punishment to the unvaccinated). Now the higher ups are looking for ways to bring in more people quickly, and have created a new position where people will start out just doing a few simple tasks, expected to transition to more responsibility in a year or two. We on the floor are not convinced this will get people in much faster, and not thrilled that they will get one of the positions in which we get a chance to sit down.

The higher ups never understand why the workers at the bottom distrust every initiative. Maybe it's because they don't ask us what would help.

Things I think would help retain people:

-Let us use our sick time without getting written up and scrutinized. It's NOT a pattern of abuse if someone happens to be sick three times during the year, on different days of the week.

-Higher pay for the very early shift.

-Stop forcing people to take shifts they simply can't do.

-Allow people to go part time if they need to, or back to full if that need lets up. Be a little flexible.

-Offer some mid-day shifts and some 10-hour/4-day shifts, and let part timers go back to 5-hr/4-day. (Yes, NATIONALLY it was decided that the way to deal with not having enough people was to force part timers to work 5 days, 4hrs each day. Literally some people drive an hour to get to work, and we're going to lose more all the time as they get sick of this.)

I know, I know, I should be expressing this to someone who can do something.
