I allowed myself to be talked into working on my day off, Saturday, when I knew I had plans for the evening. Basically they told me I could write in my own hours, so - in order to still go to my friend's house at 1830 - I went in to work from 0900 to 1700, a 7.5hr day. I had planned also to make pancakes in the morning, but then realized I did not at all have time, so picked up a King Arthur pancake mix on my way home on Friday. This was a bad idea. It has a ton of sodium, like four pancakes is a whole daily allotment, and Eor's system went off the deep end - he felt like shit, with an on and off feverish thing, all day, and is still not sorted out today. Seriously, working extra time is really not easy for some people. :( For an early dinner this evening we've bought Thai chicken fried rice and then went to the gym, but I don't think we even made 20 minutes on the treadmill because he was still feeling so bad. Damnit, I didn't mean to poison him! I gave the rest of the pancake mix to the friend I went to visit last night.
One thing we did accomplish today - got our passport photos taken and all the application parts stuffed in the envelopes, ready to send out tomorrow. No, we don't have travel plans, it's just that our old passports will expire in January and you never know. I actually wanted to go to Canada in my August vacation, but don't think our new passports will be back, and the old one has to be turned in with the application. But, well. At least the process is finally in train. Maybe I'll be able to get some time to go later in the fall. I have the annual leave hours, it's just stringing together days is really hard at present, because (say it with me now) "we just don't have staff." I can't even believe people are still saying, "people don't like to work these days." I think the situation is far more complex than that. I think people who feel they can work are working, but also a lot of people are willing to quit and try someplace else if they feel they're not treated well, so the way employers treat employees in the U.S. has got to change. But who am I do say.
