Guess what I got for the first time for my 57th birthday? Something I never wanted or needed, but don't want to pass on to someone else...
COVID!!!!!
I seem to be over the chills and fever as of this morning, and today saw me improving, but it scuttled all my big plans for vacation. I had worked for someone else last Sunday so I could have Friday off to go to Rockland and see the old folks up there, then Eor and I were going to drive to Ohio and see Butonquail and go to a Ren Faire out there, come home for Wednesday, then go camping for three days. I suppose the camping might still happen if Eor doesn't come down with it. Maybe.
And then Thursday I had to leave work, sick, and got home just in time for the chills and fever to set in. It had to wait for the next day for me to go out and buy a test. Eor said my test line was 'goth' - it was so dark red it was almost black. And then I followed up with more chills and fever. All quite delightful. Now my nose is dripping constantly, and it's HARD to deal with that when I'm masking to try to keep him safe.
I certainly could have caught it from anyone at my job; I'm right in people's faces all the damned time, I can't help that. I feel really stupid. I mean, why did I not mask the week before going on vacation? This has happened to me before (not COVID), so I've already had my wake-up call and I didn't listen. What did I think was going to protect me - my sheer willpower? But I've got to admit that in my secret heart of hearts I'm blaming the new guy who was exposed and told to mask and only pretended to do so, 'accidentally' letting it slip down below his nose when we were all in a small room together.

I have to confess, Eor's description of your test line as "goth" made me smile. (a teeny bit, at least) Your mention of masking to keep him safe makes me realize how lucky we were that TODS and I had it more or less simultaneously, so at least we didn't have to socially distance from each other.
Please don't feel stupid; I think we've all gotten less careful now that the pandemic is officially over. Besides, people "wearing" their masks with their noses out make me enraged. It was totally him, I'm sure.
