I guess I'm playing ketchup again, and that's not good, I should post more often.
The Halloween Ladybugs swarmed on the 11th and 12th. This would have been just kind of cool and interesting, if we hadn't gotten this urge to use those 2 warm days to try to get the paint job extended a little higher up the front of our house. *Rod Serling voice* Picture if you will.... Being at the top of a ladder, while millions of bugs land in your fresh paint, in your bucket, catch themselves in your hair and fall into your cloths, and crawl accross your face toward your eyes. True horror. I must have looked as though I had Tourette's - jerking, flapping my arms, growling. I really felt like I was flipping out, my skin was just _crawling_, and I was afraid I'd knock myself off the ladder. My friend Hadley tells me it's bad luck to kill ladybugs, so I'll have lots of bad luck coming to me, but I will at least have a nice looking house. Maybe my intent will count in my favor - I tried to save as many as I could.
And the other surprises...
My Mom, Sillama had been hoping to go to Korea and teach English, this fall. Well, a job did not materialize before the semester began, so she decided maybe in the spring. Then, on October 10th she posted on the site I made for family communication, asking if she and a friend could stay with us on their way to take her to the airport on the 18th to go to Korea. Totally out of the blue. But, cool for her! The only fear I have is that the school is not a good one, as they've already driven away one teacher, who she will be replacing. It's not great pay, but they include an apartment.
So, the next day, the evening of the 11th, (after the ladybug incident) I talked with my brother, Motiv8n, on a Yahoo chat, and he informs me that our other brother, Jimbalaya, and his wife Mia, are headed back to Korea as well (Mia is from there, and Jimba met her when he was teaching English a few years ago). Mia may already have left, because it's her company which needs her in Korea. Jimba will be staying until the end of November to sell off their stuff, then travel a little and arrive in Korea in January. (Telling me this before Jimba did gets Motiv8n off the hook for not telling anyone he was getting married until the day before he did so. We didn't even know he was seeing anyone. But moving back to Korea is even bigger than getting married.) But it's weird, half my family is moving to the other side of the planet. It's a weird thing to just find out. Motiv8n assured me he's not moving anywhere, except next year to Arizona (he's in Southern Cali, now.) I guess he probably won't go anyplace else. He just does what his company has planned. But if they decide to send him back to Korea, too, he will go. (He also taught English, and married a woman from there, though he met her here, she works for the same company.)
Well, anyway, I'm starting to absorb the news. This has been such an odd year. "He knows changes aren't permanent - but change is."
And, learning to drive is going pretty well, actually, considering it's been so inturrupted. The last time I drove was after having taken those two days off to paint, and I did pretty well after the first couple of minutes. I think I might actually be able to do this.:) I ended up taking yesterday and today off, as well, because yesterday we visited with our friend Caw, and it was rainy, and today I pulled a muscle in my shoulder.
So, instead of driving, I read a lot of Holmes/Watson slash fanfic. Some damn good stuff by an author with the nom "Irene Adler" on the Sacrilege site. Not actually much detail on the male/male scenes, oddly enough, but a very tasteful, if too brief, female/female scene. There are 4 stories by "Irene Adler", and they're all good as stories, well written, and pretty good plot and mystery. Honestly, I hate stories where Holmes gets romantically paired with anybody besides Watson, they totally need to be together and that's all there is to it as far as I'm concerned.:)
