This was an odd one last night...
I dreamed LJ had webcams added and turned into a Survivor type thing. The players - "Friends" - were cammed every moment of their lives. People who watched the Friends had their little windows open on their desktops all the time, like watching Sims (or what I get the impression it would be like watching Sims, but as I've never played with Sims I guess I really don't know). Presumably there was also some interaction between the fans and the Friends (as we make comments to the people we've friended), and I suspect the popularity of certain Friends depended on them making the fans feel like they were important - actually friends. At the end of the year there was prize money for the person who was watched by the most people (probably produced by the Friend doing product placement during the year - IE if he wore Nikes, probably lots of his fans would buy Nikes), and a party for the top 10 and their families which was covered by E! News. I was reading a story about the party and the big question of the story was why this particular guy kept consistantly winning. I thought it was because he was quite a pretty boy and he had this gimmic of living in a mine where he did physical work in front of the camera and got all sweaty, but I never did manage to finish the story and find out what the writer thought.
