I manage to fill my days quite effectively. I just updated my writings page on my website with a new ramble I scribbled madly over the last 2 days - Deb Lister musings about Arleen Rimmer. There's something fundementally not working about it at the moment, but I'm hoping to work it into a story someday. I also hope I'm not stealing waaaay too much from fandom, I think I am.
Our team at work is losing yet another person. JI is the person with whom I began my campaign of being publicly out, who basically gave me such good positive feedback and really listened. He's the perpetrator of the great Korean Swim Team hoax, reported by
jimdes a few weeks ago. We're thinking of getting him a cake for his going-away party with "myoudaman" written on it.
The story behind that... JI was confused, when a birthday card came around a few weeks ago - there's a guy and a woman on our team who both have the same name, so he thought it was for the guy and he wrote "youdaman" ('You Da Man') on it. Then when he realized it was for the woman with the same name he got all flustered. First he tried to tack an 'm' on the front of the word and thought he'd pretend it was some gang slang (he's a 40-something totally white-bread guy who always does this homeboy shit, very funny), but then realized he couldn't pull that off, so he took and _cut_ the word out of the card. So then there's a big _hole_ in the card, and he doesn't know what to do about that. Someone put a smiley-face sticker over it, but of course he couldn't keep it a secret that he'd been such a bozo, so it's become a big thing people yell when they see him, or the woman who's card he put it on - myoudaman!
We've got a lot of stuff that's shared history, common culture, in our team. Such as teasing this one manager, KL, about his dates. (
jimdes mentioned the prank where the prize in the egg was replaced with "a date with KL." -later KL asked "who won that prize? because I was leaning toward CG...." [okay, that's only funny if you know they're both guys and CG is young enough to be KL's grandson]) Or teasing one of the team leads, CG, about his inability to give the little pep speach which every team lead and supervisor has to make during our debriefing every night. (He's been known to actually stand up and say "It was a good day, everyone showed up." Basically, he doesn't believe in being a cheerleader, he's said so, and I totally respect him for that, I think everyone does, but it's too funny to tease him that he can't speak.:))
Anyhow, enough of that for tonight...
