Watched "Braveheart" last night (for the first time - a guy I work with lent it to me). Not too bad a movie, after all. No women in it, except in extremely contrived roles (![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
eor went into major rant mode last night about Hollywood feeling a romance is necessary to a film). It would have made more sense if they'd had more women in the film as regular background characters, because what with the men all getting themselves killed fighting the population must have been mostly female. I liked the female characters, though. And actually saw femslash potential with some of them, which is quite unusual for me! I had mixed feelings about the queer background characters, but glad to see them there at all, I guess. They also felt contrived, as part of the contrivance to get the romantic subplot in there. ( Spoiler to explain that... ) At least it's gotten me curious to find out how different the historical facts are. Whether I'll do anything about that curiosity is another matter.:) ( And another Spoiler for a bummer to do with the queer background characters )
