And then when I got home I had trouble sleeping.  The management company has begun repainting the front staircase, and it's a total mess.  [livejournal.com profile] eor says I shouldn't worry about it since I don't own the property, and that I should wait until they finish - it might look fine when they're done.  I'm having trouble believing that they're going to be able to get all that paint up off the hardwood floors, and the runner carpet has to be a total loss.  Such a shame, it's such a pretty one, and wasn't worn out at all.

I suppose in retrospect it does seem a bit over the top that I laid awake in bed for so long being completely appalled, but I can't change the past, that is what I did.  My aesthetic sense was horribly offended.

Anyway, the one good point of staying out far too late was listening to Eff-Eye-El talk about Manchester (England, not New Hampshire) - in particular, about how economic system is based on theft.  (I debated relating it to Psmith's concept of Socialist redistribution of wealth, but decided he might not be as amused by that as I would be.)  By the end of the night he'd offered that if [livejournal.com profile] eor and I ever want to go to England his Mum will put us up and his sisters will take us out dancing - and he'd already extolled to me the hotness of one particular sister of his.  *chortles*

I'm freezing!  No more heat around here, it's been turned off for the summer.  And no sun, of course.  Last weekend was, I believe, the sixth consecutive weekend with rain, and the sun has been a very infrequent visitor.  A hot shower and then much tea is in order.  I have to force myself to wash some dishes, then I can fix breakfast and settle in to read the next installment of [livejournal.com profile] mars_assassins (Chapter Twenty-Nine).  Yaaay! :)

eta PS - Still no email. The DNS is fixed, to the extent that probably everyone else in the world can get to our websites besides us. RoadRunner caches old information forever.
*hugs email*  Please stay with me forever!  I'll never take you for granted again!

JP The Shrinking Man sends this article about an FSD leaving 'for personal reasons' - he believes it signifies change.  How nice that would be if it turns out to be true.

And what??  Two months of paid account time have been added to my LiveJournal account?  How very kind of someone.  *flutters at a loss*  Thank you very much, whoever you are, that's very sweet.  (Now... what do I do with a paid account?  I've never had one.  I guess I'd better make use of it in the next two months and, um, make lots of polls or something.  Collect lots of icons?)

But, dude, way to make me feel loved.

Completely unrelatedly...

The painters in the hall are making weird, strangled noises.

I'm wearing my new boots.

A passenger came through while I was on the walkthrough yesterday and he had Limmer boots. He was happy to hand them to me (and then back, so they could be x-rayed) to find out if they set it off. They very nearly did. Apparently the little metal lace loops add up to quite a lot. Soo... I might not be able to wear them to work. Potentially I'd either have to divest everything else, or take the boots off.

And he was very happy to talk to me about his boots. He said it took six months to break his in, but to stick with it because they're the best boots he's ever had. And he didn't go get fitted by someone who knew what they were doing, so hopefully mine won't take as long.
