I got the April 3 approved off, so yes, it looks as though we will be in London on April 4! (Barring weather, mechanical delays and good old-fashioned over scheduling by the airlines, that is - and anything else that can possibly go wrong when travelling. Because my family is cursed when travelling. I kind of get around that curse, somehow, by going with Eor.) But yes, who's up for hanging with us when we're soggy, jetlagged and braindead? *Looks hopefully in the direction of [livejournal.com profile] qian*

I'm pretty braindead right now, actually. Two days getting up an hour earlier than usual. Tomorrow I'm back to my regular schedule, though. That wasn't the original plan; I was going to be covering for this other guy for three days, so I made plans to get the car windshield fixed (it randomly decided to crack last Friday), so I'm going through with the plan to drop off the car this evening, and on my way out of work this afternoon I managed to secure the promise of a ride to work from one of the guys; Buck. He actually lives in South Portland, but said it wouldn't be a problem at all.

I'd better go drop the car off and get to packaging up my meager amount of presents for people. I've gone very skinflint this year, and it's not even so much that I'm so focused on saving money; it's just that I'm completely without inspiration around the whole shopping deal. There's people I'd really like to get things for and I can't think of a single thing that seems likely. I'll also apologize right now for how lame my cards are.

BTW, did I buy someone a cup last year which had a pink background, and, um, a sepia-tone pic of a woman with a gun on it? I don't want to give it all away but if I bought it for you please speak up. I'm thinking now that maybe I got it for Hawk's GF, but I'm not sure.

I know I had something else I wanted to write about, but really I must go.

How much do I love living in a fairly walkable neighborhood? Yes, I've already been down and dropped off the car at Portland Glass and walked back. My computer hadn't even got done showing the screen saver.
Couple of things I've meant to mention -

Book #43, I think? I finished Good Omens for about the sixth time. Sometime last week, I think. I think it ended the same way this time. :) (Also forced a co-worker to read it and that's been great fun. He adores it and wants it to be made into a movie and insists that Christopher Walken must have some part in it, possibly Hastur. He cast Will Smith for Famine.)

Now I'm just down to the history books which I'm kind of always reading and never finishing - The Raj and A Distant Mirror. I added yet another, actually, as I just got well started into "Daily Life In Victorian England," which I'm really enjoying.

Also, the fruitfly traps suggested by an anonymous poster on Eor's journal have been incredibly effective and the infestation is at an end! You print the pattern for the cone here, and bait it with apple cider vinegar with a few drops of dish detergent in it. The dish detergent was the key ingredient - before we added that they were inside the glass but still alive and sometimes climbing out. Now they are dead, sunk in the solution which has no surface tension. I feel so bloodthirsty and evil.
