I got the April 3 approved off, so yes, it looks as though we will be in London on April 4! (Barring weather, mechanical delays and good old-fashioned over scheduling by the airlines, that is - and anything else that can possibly go wrong when travelling. Because my family is cursed when travelling. I kind of get around that curse, somehow, by going with Eor.) But yes, who's up for hanging with us when we're soggy, jetlagged and braindead? *Looks hopefully in the direction of [livejournal.com profile] qian*

I'm pretty braindead right now, actually. Two days getting up an hour earlier than usual. Tomorrow I'm back to my regular schedule, though. That wasn't the original plan; I was going to be covering for this other guy for three days, so I made plans to get the car windshield fixed (it randomly decided to crack last Friday), so I'm going through with the plan to drop off the car this evening, and on my way out of work this afternoon I managed to secure the promise of a ride to work from one of the guys; Buck. He actually lives in South Portland, but said it wouldn't be a problem at all.

I'd better go drop the car off and get to packaging up my meager amount of presents for people. I've gone very skinflint this year, and it's not even so much that I'm so focused on saving money; it's just that I'm completely without inspiration around the whole shopping deal. There's people I'd really like to get things for and I can't think of a single thing that seems likely. I'll also apologize right now for how lame my cards are.

BTW, did I buy someone a cup last year which had a pink background, and, um, a sepia-tone pic of a woman with a gun on it? I don't want to give it all away but if I bought it for you please speak up. I'm thinking now that maybe I got it for Hawk's GF, but I'm not sure.

I know I had something else I wanted to write about, but really I must go.

YAY! April 4 is a Saturday -- what time will you arrive? What sort of things do you and Eor like doing? London is expensive, but there are lots of fun things to do for free. :) :) Nearly all the museums are free, for one thing, that is very nice.

We love museums (old stuff or art or any kind, probably) we both love bookstores (though we shouldn't buy lots to haul with us, but that rarely stops us entirely) and coffee shops... One thing I've always had a burning desire to see, even though I fear I might be disappointed, is the Sherlock Holmes museum. Or Madam Toussauds! (sp?) The wax place, anyhow! Though I suspect neither of those is free. :) If it doesn't work out to do anything at all I'd be fine; I'm going to be delighted to be there and see you, no matter what we do.

Madame Tussauds is definitely not free, but I'll check if I can get cheaper tickets for y'all with my student status. I enjoyed the Sherlock Holmes museum the one time I went, though the thing I recall enjoying the most was the guestbook, with notes from people all over the world about how much they loved Holmes and Watson. :)

Stuff I've done with other visiting friends:
The Sir John Soane's Museum (http://www.soane.org/)
Hunterian Museum (http://www.rcseng.ac.uk/museums) (mostly dead things and organs in jars)
Borough Market (http://www.boroughmarket.org.uk/) -- expensive, but delicious! And it doesn't cost anything to wander around and try things. :)

Also the British Museum, V&A and Tate (Modern and Britain!) are fun and free. :)

Those all sound like great options - I'll have to sit down and think a bit. And listen to the Stephen Fry introduction on the Sir John Soane's. :)

Of course you! :) Though it really hasn't got that much to do with the recession and much more to do with my mood and lack of organizational skills.

Me also! Why?

Yes, okay! Two reasons - I wouldn't want to buy you the same thing, again (although a set of six might be cool when you had company), and I thought I might get one for someone else but wanted to make sure I hadn't already got it for her. Since I'm pretty sure I only bought one ever, so far, I'm probably safe.
