I was unable to get to my computer for a couple of days because Eor was using my monitor and keyboard in an attempt to get the database server that we keep our recipes and addresses on back up and working again. And even earlier this evening he was still needing to lay on the floor to look into the guts of his own machine. Because of the way our desks are set up, if he needs room or is jumping up and down all the time it gets a little hard for me to sit quietly in front of the computer. And seeing as I've had terrible headaches, lately, from being on the computer too much at work, probably that's kind of good. I sat at the table and drank cider, ate cheese and crackers, and read fanfic off my Nook. :) What a GOOD idea it was for the people over at AO3 to make the stories downloadable as EPUB! ;) One of my coworkers loaned me a book about a live action role playing game he does in Connecticut and he was a little disappointed I had not looked at it yet after I'd had a break at work, and I had to admit I had 'about a thousand' (a slight exaggeration) fanfics on my Nook to read, which he seemed to understand. ;)

So, yesterday I read this New Yorker article about WiFi names, which observes names that are fashionable. For a while a few years ago there was a rash of "Pretty Sly For a WiFi," and lately the popular sort of name is something like "FBI Surveillance Van" or "Police Unmarked Car." I was disappointed that they didn't chase that fad down a little more. Why "FBI Surveillance Van"? May I suggest a desire to poke fun at the war on terrorism? We're perhaps a little annoyed with it? Eor, however, countered that it might be a simple desire to keep people from stealing their bandwidth. Either people will stay away or they'll try extra hard to break in. :)

And completely unrelatedly, a somewhat drunken exchange between us that amused me:

Eor posited that thermite's reaction might be something like "very fast rust."

"Scarey!" I said.

"Only if you're an android. Is there something you want to tell me, [derien]?"

"I'm not scared at all of flesh eating bacteria."

"Ah. But this explains why you hate mopping! 'Bite my shiny metal ass!'"

And this is quite a long enough post, so if I feel I must keep writing I will need to do back posts. ;)
not family, but almost

Did you know that food which is too spicy can give you the hiccups? Yup.
