Or, Eor's been filling me up with his research, and now I feel a need to keep track of it.

According to Wiki (which of course is somewhat suspect, but has sources) the United States has as many aircraft carriers as all other in-service aircraft carriers in the world. In the world! We have 11 in service. (Japan has 20 decommissioned - I imagine it would take a while to get those hulks back in working order.)

We spend almost as much just to operate just ONE of those aircraft carriers as we do to fund Public Broadcasting for one year. Only to operate that one big boat, that doesn't include if you wanted to figure in the cost of buying one.

We spend around $2,000 per year per capita on the military. Per capita means all those little kids who don't have jobs, too, not just working taxpayers. The United Arab Emirates spend more, but they have far fewer people, so we end up accounting for 41% of the world's military spending - more than the next fourteen countries combined.

Do we intend to take on the rest of the world?

I wish I had a brain. It would be so nice. I was supposed to have bought Eightball a present, today (his birthday is Tuesday) and paid my bills (due tomorrow or the next day, I can't remember), and instead I read this delightful story by Copperbadge about Loki coming to Earth and cooked some Sriracha chicken (which was so hot I had hiccups after taking one bite, even though I put two tablespoons of yogurt in mine). I must have done other things as well, but I don't recall what they were. Eor reminds me that I worked on sewing up my purse for a while (it only cost me $20 about a year ago, so I guess I should not be surprised it's falling apart) and I had mead! Mead made with not only honey, but also maple syrup and tea.

Hey, I never did mention that I actually did go to see Monty Python and the Holy Grail on Thursday, did I? Yes, I went, with Littleredhead. Eor decided he needed to stay home and be sick a little more, because he had gone to the doctor and been diagnosed with 'acute sinusitus' and given medicines. And Groundctrl got roped into attending a meeting (I think it was town business, he's on their town's board) so missed most of the movie, but we had dinner with him before. The audience was so quiet! I mean, they're Mainers so I guess it's not unusual, but in a theatre you suddenly realize that it's a very quiet movie, actually. There's tons of dead air space, very little music, and it's not really a belly-laugh kind of thing.

I'm up far too late for having to go to work tomorrow morning. I slept too late this morning so wasn't tired when the right bedtime came. And then maybe the mead made with tea might have kept me wakeful, too.
