Some great pictures here which give the feel of the place:

It's a delight. :) You can wander through the place for hours - three floors, densely packed, with things that aren't tools upstairs. It's a shame that their books are dusty and their vinyl records aren't stacked upright or sorted, but there's SO MUCH TO SEE. And we bought a scythe: dark gracefully curved wood, with with a shortish, business-like blade. Eor intends to use it to clear overgrown areas, because he figures that way he'll get a chance to uncover what's there before running a lawnmower into it and breaking blades. I hope he doesn't break the scythe blade, then he'll be unhappy.

And then we went across the road to Liberty Graphics and bought a couple of t-shirts and saw Captain Tew's trunk, which is sitting on the front porch. They claim it is an actual pirates trunk, and it is also registered as a nuclear waste facility because it was acquired with some smoke detectors inside it which contain Americium-241. (It was registered with the state as a form of protest against nuclear power, I guess?)

Now, to be honest, I really don't think they make them like this anymore, but not because they don't make scythes. I only just found out today, because Eor was researching how to set the handles (the orientation of them on the long part can be changed) that they DO make scythes, and that the design has advanced in the past few years, so that your stance can be more upright. It amazes me that a design which has been used for hundreds of years was not already perfected. Now I want a new one so Eor won't hurt his lower back cleaning out the weeds. But I do think this one is really pretty. :)

ETA: When I went grocery shopping and realized that I still had a damned SCYTHE in the back seat of the car I had to chuckle. :)
