Hawk posted the following on FB on September 10:
The genetic testing of my biopsy came back. There genetic mutation that caused all this is called EGFR ...AND there's treatment for it!! In trials, patients are 94% disease free at 2 years!!! I still have to go through chemo, radiation and surgery (and a complete response to these treatments would be just fine) BUT that's just the beginning. If it's taken a few days to put this up, it's because I've been pretty psyched about life. thankyouthankyouthankyou for all the love.

And he actually phoned and told me this on the 5th, so I've been very remiss. Yes, on the 5th I posted in the morning and was not in a great mood. In the afternoon my mood got better because of this news and the doctor telling me that my biopsy and ultrasound have come back good an I don't have uterine cancer. Yay! :) (She still thinks a complete hysterectomy might make me more comfortable, but I think at this point I get to put it off for as long as I want to.)
Why do Shakers have such a strong web presence when there are only three of them left in the world? Well, they always were very modern and forward thinking, even though they were farmers. They also are open to converts, still, even though there are only three left. The big drawback for most people, now, is the celibacy and separation of the sexes. I think they might get more converts these days if they set that aside and allowed relationships, just no procreation. But who knows, maybe they would feel that was not the same religion at all, I don't know.

Anyhow, this is one place I went with Flowing Spring, Wednesday.

We did the tour, and the guide thinks she remembers me from seeing me at the orchard up the road. I'm not sure, I've only been there once, but it's quite possible.

I can't find much web presence at all for mime storyteller Antonio Roche, who made a lovely breakfast for us on Wednesday at his lovely little cottage in the woods.* He somehow commands $1,000/day for his appearances despite not being all that available online. But I did find one of his sketches which you can view for free on YouTube, Turbulence**. I shall say nothing to influence your opinion re this performance, because I do hate it when people say that things are hysterical - it could be funny to me but not to you. But I did think the bit where the airplane meal appears huge until you get it in front of you was quite cleverly done. And you will note it was posted by himself, so I've subscribed to him on YouTube.

Am trying to be good and do some work outside between bouts of writing this post. It's a gorgeous fall day - bright sun, slightly cool, perfect for work, so I've done some digging. :)

*for those who love food there were croissants, goat cheese, blueberry preserves, a fruit salad with banana, kiwi, blueberries, granny smith apple, tiny orange or nectarine(?) slices, and probably more things I don't recall, and he made scrambled eggs and had some nice oat bread which his daughter did not like, but he got it by her later under goat cheese and blueberry preserves by cutting it up and calling it 'special crackers I just found for you.'

**Tony Montanaro, who's name appears twice in the credits, was Antonio's teacher and learned from Marcel Marceau, so two degrees of separation. He was one of the great mime performers, and in a weird aside he apparently had one acting job, doing vocalizations for the movie "Clan of the Cave Bear."
