I'm glad I filled the feeders last night. At 7:15AM, the sun was not up yet, and there must have been around 20 birds having their breakfast outside my kitchen window. Eight finches on the feeders, eight birds of various and indeterminate type on the ground (I need to figure out what those fat dark ones with long tails are), and then chickadees and nuthatches that dash in and out and can never be counted accurately. It was -10F, and that makes them hungry, burning more calories to keep warm.
Makes me hungry, too. I'm all bundled up, started only the kitchen fire, the furnace is still running to keep the outlying parts of the house above 58F, and have made myself a four-egg omelet. Excessive, I know. I justified that with, "I didn't want one egg left alone in the old carton," and "I have so much to do, today, that I might forget to eat again before dinner."
I made myself a long list. It includes adventures like 'take out the ash and compost' (doesn't it qualify as an adventure when you have to slog through the snow?), and 'get a new day planner' (waaah, the one I got in England for cheap has run out and I can't get as nice a one here, even online, for less than three times the price!) - so, a dull day, really. But happily my day will end with meeting Eor for dinner at 4pm (not a long haul from a 4-egg omelet breakfast, but I bet I'll snack) and then going to see "The Last Jedi" with friends, and probably get a hot chocolate after so we can have time to dissect the movie together. Excited! :)
