Where did this list come from? I think I've read most of them, but because I had to (literature major) not because I necessarily wanted to. Hmmm, maybe I'll copy your idea and put the list in my journal. I'm curious to count up exactly how many I've read.

My guess is that it's a British list, constructed by vote of the public, I believe as part of a promotion of reading and there might have been some charity involved somehow. That explains why there's so many books on it I never heard of.
