Okay, I'm giving in to the pressure - Every freakin month I get an email from Meetup concerning the possibility of a meeting of Terry Pratchett fans. Problem is, there has to be more than two people interested or the thing gets cancelled. There has to be more than two Terry Pratchett fans in all of the Greater Portland (Maine) Area! If you're interested, sign up. Not that I swear I'll actually show up... and certainly don't bother to sign up to any of the crap they're trying to charge you money for.

In work-related stuff...
More people leaving every day. (I can't recall if I said, but our new "right-sizing" staffing number is 95 - supposedly we should be able to efficiently run this airport with 95 people.) We should be down below 95 by now, or will be soon

In the "don't believe everything people say" department...
A week ago I had to search the bags of a pair of selectee passengers, guy and wife, who had a small stone vase among their possessions. Any stone bigger than a fist should be confiscated as a potential bludgeoning weapon, so my co-worker took it and asked the supervisor on duty if we needed to take it away, and she said no. However, the wife refused to take the vase back, she repeatedly insisted, "take it, take it, throw it away - I got it as a gift and I don't want it, I don't like it, but it would have been too rude to throw it away while I was still in their house!" Eventually, since we could not convince her to take it back, and it was not a confiscatable item, and it seemed like something a little too nice to just toss out, I said "I'll take care of it," and she seemed happy with that. I took it home with me, figuring if I might give it to Goodwill. Today I go in to work and I had to fill out an incident report - apparently she wants the vase back. Well, actually, it seems she has a friend who works for one of the airlines, who complained, very upset, said the vase was quite expensive. (I figured if someone is throwing something away it has no value.) Our whole shift got multiple briefing/debriefing to the effect that we should not take anything people want to give us, although it was kindly pointed out that I had done nothing wrong, we just shouldn't do that in the future. No problem, you won't catch me doing that again.
But the thing which really bothers me is that in addition to being upset that we'd taken the vase, the friend who works for the airline also accused us of having "interrogated" the guy and his wife for an hour. That is ridiculous. Ludicrous, even - and someone who works for the airlines should know better. I don't have time to interrogate anyone, not to mention that I wouldn't care to do so and it's just not in my job description. All I do is look for prohibited items. The search did take a long time - I and my co-worker spent all our time unwrapping, inspecting and trying to carefully wrap back up an enormous pottery urn they were also carrying. What-e-ver.

And in non-work related stuff that happens at work...
I was walking down the hall at work with my co-worker, Mainertoo, and out of the blue he said, "There were six guys sitting around talking about you last night." I was like, "What could anyone want to talk about me for?" "Guys like you," he said, but he wouldn't say what they were saying. He also said
jimdes was present, so hopefully he'd keep speculation at least somewhat in line with reality. Unless of course he was in a mischevious mood, but that's really okay, too, it's kind of amusing to hear the rumors people will believe.;)
