I guess I didn't mention that I called in sick yesterday. AND today. Yup, I feel like crap, yet again. Am trying to get on with some of the needs of everyday life, but mostly not managing it, and the whole midwinter holiday thing has kind of fallen by the wayside. Although I did manage to get a few more cards in the mail, ones eor kindly had ready. Mostly all I've been doing is reading Glitch/Cain fic ("Tin Man" fandom) over at thegraygale. There's some good stuff. And as usual there's stuff also that starts good and then just isn't finished, and some that starts out sounding pretty good and then jumps the shark big time.

God fucking damn I'm cold. Three pair of socks, my jammies and bathrobe, and the thermostat insists it's 68 degrees in here, but I'm cold. Time for a hot bath and maybe some real clothes, but I don't know what I can do for me feet. I think I'm going to give in and turn up the heat even more. :P I feel like a wuss, but I can't see wearing four pair of socks.

Wearing 4 pairs of socks simultaneously is only justifiable when one is determined to peacock about in those really cool second-hand big boots that are 3 sizes too large. ;) Speaking from experience.

Aw, you're not a wuss. (I say this as a fellow I-hate-the-cold, the-greatcoat-doesn't-come-off-till-mid-July, etc. individual.) I also believe your winters are considerably more evil over there than the ones here, temperature- and weather conditions-wise. And when yer ill, yer ill - even simple tasks take 7 times as long to complete, so you just carry on pottering around at your own speed with frequent breaks for therapeutic fanfic-perusal during your convalescence. :)

They must have been really good boots. ;) The big problem, most likely, is that all the pairs of socks I put on are roughly the same size, so they're not allowing any air to stay in. Also, they're all crap that I bought at Wal-Mart, and nearly fish-nets. I've now swapped one pair of that crap for SmartWool, but it's not much improvement. Things are not much helped by the fact that Eor had to put an extension cord out the window to charge up the battery on the van! I should go hang out in the room next to the bathroom, where we keep the treadmill, it's quite warm in there. But there's nothing to do in there, and nothing to sit on.

Unfortunately my fanfic perusal has been anything but 'breaks,' it's been more like 'obsessive.' I do so love Glitch. I think I identify with him, what with the "Was I doing something? I was, I'm sure I was... what was it?" - just like I am constantly saying to myself. But I resisted for two years, I don't know how. Maybe I managed it because the miniseries was actually pretty poorly executed, for the most part, aside from Glitch.

There's absolutely no point being stoic when you're sick; it doesn't help you get better any faster, and it makes the misery just that much more miserable. Hopefully, you've already determined this for yourself and are toasting happily away in a 72 degree house.

I was going go suggest heating up your copper foot-warmer, but it's possible that it still leaks, and who wants to clean up big puddles of water when you're feeling poorly?

I tried to turn the temperature up, but it just doesn't seem to want to go above 68 no matter what I do! Well, as I mentioned to Wolfie, it's not helped by Eor having run the extension cord out the window to charge up the van battery. Hot herbal tea, and lots of it. I should probably just go nest in the middle room (where we keep the treadmill) with a book - it's the warmest room in the house. Right now I'm seriously considering moving all the furniture around, making that the living room. Only then we couldn't have our cozy set up where Eor and I can see each other, me at my computer reading fic and him in the armchair (in his sleepingbag) playing Diablo on his laptop. :) We're not interacting, really, but at least we have the option to do so. ;)

Brrr! I was cold last night with our thermostat at 72 (but I am a scrawny wimp), so 68 sounds positively freezing. My hands were like ice. I think you need slippers! (To wear on TOP of the socks.) Nice wool (or even fleecy-lined) ones, preferably.

I think I'm turning it up, tonight, because last night I was wearing my scarf! And feeling stupid I'd laid my hat down somewhere. I would buy slippers, but I foolishly told Eor to tell his Mom that one thing she could get for me as a present would be material to make slippers out of. *eyerolls* That was before this cold spell set in. Right now I haven't turned it up yet (just got home) and am wearing my hat, scarf, hoodie up, SHOES (I NEVER wear shoes indoors) and am seriously considering abandoning my computer so I can wear gloves. Might even watch TV. Well, a DVD, probably, since we only have the very bare min cable. But we have tons of DVDs we haven't watched. It might be Jackie Chan marathon night! With hot chocolate! :D

I can't believe how many Tin Man comms there are out there, and there are even Glitch/Cain specific comms! :)

Honestly, I thought most of the show was pretty damned lame, but I'm a long time reader/viewer of any Oz related stuff I can find. I even read "A Barnstormer in Oz." I used to collect ALL the books when I was a kid. /me <--is serious idiot fangirl over Oz.

But Glitch. Hot. Damn. And Cain, yes, is a complete jerk sometimes, but he will love Glitch, it's his deeeeethtiny. I don't really get why anyone writes any other pairing.

Have you read that Azkedelia/Glitch story "Evil Like That, (http://community.livejournal.com/tinman_fic/35850.html)"? I'm generally not a fan of non-con BDSM stuff, rape, abuse, etc, but it's well done and makes sense, I have to admit. And there's a sequel in which he might sort his problems out, I hope, "You Don't Forget," (http://community.livejournal.com/glitch_wyatt/70488.html)which is up to 13 chapters and unfinished, and I think she took a kind of wrong turn at one point, but I love a lot of things about the story. Took me forever to find all the parts so far, and I got after the author for not having put a link from the previous chapters. ;)

I'm always VERY not into explicit het. The thing that saved this story, for me was that it wasn't really explicit as far as what she forces him to do, and I knew that it's all Cain/Glitch in the second story. Also, it's all about his brain being so messed up that he's not sure from one minute to the next what's happening to him.
