LaCorneille's dissection of Gender Genie. (includes a link to Gender Genie http://www.bookblog.net/gender/genie.html) I did it last night, using a long snippet of a story where I'm trying to write from a male perspective, but it did correctly guess me as female. However, just now I used one of my journal entries, and according to that I'm male. Hm. So far their online results are still only running 50/50 (even though their hypothesis was that they would be 80% correct). Looking at the keywords they've used I'm amazed they think they can show any result from this. When I did the thing last night I thought the keywords listed were only those found in the peice of writing I used. Nope. Apparently these are ALL the keywords they are using.

Male Keywords
[the]
[a]
[some]
[number]
[it]

Female Keywords
[with]
['s]
[possessive pronoun]
[for]
[not] or [n't]

[livejournal.com profile] eor just had me laughing hysterically with his analysis (and I wish I could give you his exact words and intonation, because that was what made it really funny, but basically) - he finds it amazing that they've written something that gives them a perfect nothing, a result exactly the same as a coin-toss. :) (As he could do the same with 2 lines of perl code he hopes they didn't spend to long on it.)

Perl

Anything you can do in 2 lines of perl somebody else can do in 1. :P

And somebody else can do in a half line of perl.
