I'll get around to doing the full linguistics poll tomorrow or sometime, but for now I just wanted to note - I haven't seen anybody yet answer this question right - the appropriate answer is "An Italian!" as anyone from LJMaine will tell you! ;) Working at the airport I have noticed that people who are expatriates of Maine take lots of indiginous foods away with them. I think I may have noted in previous LJ entries that people pack lots of whoopie pies and Moxie (sometimes whole cases of either). And the other thing you often see is bags full of italian sandwiches. They say you can't even get the proper bread for an italian anyplace but Maine (although I'd suspect you might be able to get same in New Hampshire or Mass). It's a soft bread, and a classic italian sandwich is made with ham, white american cheese, green peppers, onions, olives, and topped with salt, pepper, oil and occasionally vinegar.
