But it sucks to have to choose whether to read a book or read my friends list. For the last few days I've been reading "Monstrous Regiment." I'll admit, this was one present I actually squeed when I opened it.:) And it didn't let me down, it was quite good. Somehow different from most Pratchett, and I think it was more than just the lack of footnotes. (I think I was on page 107 before I saw my first footnote. I had noticed the lack thereof some 30 pages earlier.) No, the difference was greater than that - there was more of a harsh edge to the background than I've noticed before. Bad things do happen to people in Pratchett books, but some really bad things had happened in the past to some of these characters. I think it was important stuff, and neccessary to the story, but I was glad we didn't have to witness these things first hand. Those of you on my friends list who've already read it (which is most of you) can probably accurately guess to what I refer.
And he did make good on his promise that he'd have homosexual characters if that fit the story.
For those of you who've read it, does anyone see any possibility for Maladict/Ozzer? I'm thinking at some point in the future after the end of this story. After all, their new day is a great big fish.
