Trees rustling, soft breezes entering the windows. I really need to take the garbage out right now because it should be smelling good in here.

[livejournal.com profile] eor wrote his own very brief review of Prisoner of Azkaban. Over all, I loved it - excellent gritty, dark feel, and as always I loved the pretty sets and costuming. Not sure how I felt about Remus and Sirius. They were why I started reading Harry Potter, so I think I've put too much thinking time in on them and had too firm an idea about how they should look and speak. But, I now really like Hermione! :)

Minor notes, neither pro nor con...

[livejournal.com profile] eor commented on the similarity between the Dementors and the creature in Kate Bush's video, "Experiment IV."

Wasn't Peter Pettigrew amazingly repulsive?!

Something I don't recall noticing in the book, but it was quite evident in the movie - Dumbledore either went back in time himself and replaced himself at Hagrid's hut during the Buckbeak-being-executed scene, or he somehow communicated with his earlier self to stall for time, there.

Not sure what to say about the loss of school uniforms and robes. The uniforms - I don't think they were in the books, so no big loss there. But I thought it was pretty solid that they always wore robes when they're in school. At least they chose clothes which were not too very dated.

My few complaints:

I liked the new school grounds, but I don't like the discontinuity between this movie and the last - I'd have preferred to see the old grounds but maybe they get to see some new parts/angles/hillsides that hadn't been visible in the previous two movies. Hagrid changed his house?

Indoor scenes were often too cramped. Fine for at the Dursley's, but the school is a huge castle, all the rooms have always felt spacious in the books. So what's with Harry practicing his Patronus spell in a room that's too small for his stag to form?

And why do we only see the stag once? When Harry sees himself casting it we see the Patronus as the stag, but when he's casting it he doesn't see it that way. Huh?

Of course, the werewolf - everyone complains about that, so I was ready for how ugly it was.

I wasn't keen on Gary Oldman (Sirius) overacting in the scene where he's saying goodbye to Harry. Grabbing his face, and just the way he said his lines... could have been better.

I know everyone has complained about this, but what's with Harry being so dense he didn't even clue on Remus knowing the map was a map? He should have been saying "gee, some secret map I've got here, everyone seems to know what it is."

On the plus side:

The werewolf was animated quite well (as was Buckbeak) so I was convinced on the more elemental level and willing to let it slide that it was completely wrong for what had been described in the book.

Remus and Sirius got good interaction with each other (still leaving things quite slash-possible, I'd say) and with Harry (making it more believable than it was in the books that he'd actually feel a connection with Sirius - so [livejournal.com profile] eor said, and I'm inclined to agree).

The Shrieking Shack scene wasn't near as confusing as people portrayed it - I thought it was all quite understandable. One has to be paying attention a little, but I'll admit I'm not the brightest bulb and I thought I'd have understood it even without having read the book. [livejournal.com profile] eor actually said he understood it better in the movie than when he was reading the book.

I haven't heard anyone mention that cute little snugglefest (when supposedly Buckbeak is being killed) when Hermione glomps Ron and then Harry wraps around her - that was adorable!

And biggest thing on the pro side - Hermione kicked ass. :) Literally (punching Draco) as well as figuratively. So, yeah, Harry cast a good strong Patronus, but Hermione was the one coming up with ideas and getting stuff done through most of that part where they're changing history. True to the book? I can't remember, it might be word for word, but it was played out well, and Emma (Watson?) did a very good job.

I feel sure there was something else I'd planned to say, but I've got to pee and then get outside in this lovely weather.:)
