I'm getting looped into it again, and it makes me crazy - the spiraling vet bills for an older cat. Paula is basically healthy, aside from occasional throwing up and her damned annoying yowling. The vet looked at her today and said maybe the yowling has to do with high blood pressure and having mini strokes, causing her to get disoriented, or hyperthyroidism, which also causes disorientation and weight loss. She lost 2 lbs since last year, which is exceptional for a cat and not good since she's always been 9 lbs. Also, she has absesses because her teeth are so bad, which causes pain and she can't eat well, which also could be making her yowl. She needs to be put under in order to clean them, and before they can do that they need blood work, and the blood work will tell them if she has high blood pressure or hyperthyroidism. Soooo... we did blood work. I caved. $160. And I'm wondering, again, if it wouldn't just be easier, for her and me both, to just have her put to sleep. It's easier to think about that with Paula because she's not a happy cat, like Ginger was. Paula only has moments of happiness, it's not her default state.
