Not at all! :) With links I just usually give credit, I don't generally ask. (am I supposed to? I hope I'm not committing a faux pas.) Before I repost text written by someone I ask. Before I link to someone's post I check to make sure it's public. And if they have several journals I generally ask for blanket permission "would it be alright if I linked to some of your posts on that other journal?" before doing so.
