It actually doesn't look that much like the x-ray at work, in my opinion, but BuddyBoy emailed the link to a bunch of us - pretend to be a security screener. ;) It's only like two minutes of x-ray time, though, and everything was pretty obvious in the bags. Er, at least to me. They should make it a bit of a challenge, though.

Speaking of screening baggage, I'm flying to Denver in a few weeks and I plan to bring my digital camera with me. Someone on my LJ friends list said they'd had their camera confiscated by airport security, but I've never seen this happen before, as long as you can prove to the screener that it is an actual, functional electronic device. Is this the case? If I tell them I have a digital camera, turn it on and take a picture, they'll let me keep it, right? :-)

Yeah, I thank my persistant pigheadedness every day that I badgered them into letting me off the morning shift - I hated coming in at 3:45 and having to feel as though if I missed something on the x-ray hundreds of people could die.

I've never heard of such a thing happening, but it's possible if they had pried the back off and taped it up or something - so that it looked as though something might be hidden inside - there could be a problem. If your camera looks relatively untampered with and you are not a selectee we'll probably just look at it in the bag as it goes through the x-ray and be perfectly happy.
At Portland we generally just look through the camera, look at the outside of it and such. If we can turn in on ourselves we don't usually ask the passenger to do it for us, and we don't ask people to take a picture with their camera (to look at pictures on the camera is strictly forbidden; privacy issues).
Something can still function as the electronic device it appears to be and also have another function; explosive device, taser or hiding place for something.
