Yes, I'm going to devote a whole LJ entry to James Patrick Kelly.

Jim Kelly regularly writes a column for Asimov's Science Fiction Magazine called something like 'the best of the web.'  He also writes weird, quirky sci-fi stories that are often both cynical and sweet.  About every other year he's featured in the Christmas issue (and when he's not it's generally Connie Willis who takes his place - the one year I recall when there was neither of them I felt quite let down).  He lives in New Hampshire, and when we lived in New Hampshire we happened to hear, on New Hampshire Public Radio, a recording of him reading his story "Fruitcake Theory."  I thought it was really cool hearing how he did the voices and everything - the voice of the rooster-like alien sounded a lot like Alex the African Grey parrot (and I could go into a huge thing about Alex and how incredibly cool he is, too, but I won't, I will restrain myself), and since then that parroty voice has become one of Eor's and my odd little in-jokes.  And now YOU TOO can hear Jim Kelly read "Fruitcake Theory"!  (Click on the picture of the fuitcake.)  And that way if I reference one of us using that voice you'll know what I mean.  Usually I don't reference it because I know nobody will know what I mean.

Yay!  I feel like it's Christmas in July! :)
