These are the boots I can't wear because of the scree collar. I paid $85 just for them... whereas all the boots, sneakers and sandals we bought today cost $88. Sucks.

Yeah, they're righteous-looking. I was seriously attracted to their toe-caps, and desperately wanted to be able to stomp around town in them.

Unfortunately, they have this scree collar at the top which hurt my calves. In the past few months I've debated back and forth about them many times. One friend who used to work with shoes suggested I beat the scree collars with a hammer to soften them up, or work them between my fingers, but I never have a time when I can sit and do something like that (I don't watch TV). And I'm still not sure that would make me happy, because I just don't like the look of the scree collar - I found myself seriously contemplating just cutting the top of the boots right off.

Also, the lacing system on these boots distributes the tension evenly along the entire length of the boot, which means that I can't lace them tight around my ankles and looser around my calves and have the tension stay in the area where I need it. It might work fine for some people, but I have quite a lot of difference between my ankles and my calves.

Yes, shoes are VERY important to me. :) It's not just looks, I really need the comfort factor.
