Because I haven't finished reading it yet (it's rather long), but it's great so far, and
eor recommended it saying it was wonderful and also full of scrummy little phrases: Zen's essay on religion on Inspired by elephants. (Now to go memory link this post.)
edited to add Having finished it, must post one quote (I'd like to quote the whole thing, but there'd be no point):
"...religion should have the wisdom to keep itself out of science, because science wishes to state general principles that apply to everybody, but religion should be an individual thing, differing from person to person according to their needs, or there is no spirituality in it."
That is not the best point of the essay, it's just one of many.
further edited to add: I can't believe I hadn't read Inspired by Elephants in such a long time. I had so much stuff to catch up on. Now I really need to wash my uniforms. And get out in the sun.
