I had to crawl up the last couple of steps to the front of our apartment building because of the ice - it's been raining and freezing on for the past several hours, and it's only going to get worse all night. "But at least," I said to myself, "the management company has provided salt or something which I can put down!" I'd seen the black five-gallon bucket in the entry-way. What I didn't realize was that they had not opened the bucket. I struggled with it for probably 30 seconds or more before I realized I really DID need to pull off the strip around the top, and even when I got that off it was not easy to get open with my weak fingers. But I managed it, eventually. And then began to look around for something to scoop the stuff out with. They hadn't left anything. I grabbed a flyer which had been left in the recycle bin under the mailboxes. That allowed me to scoop up perhaps a third of a cup at a time, so it took about a dozen trips to lightly coat both sets of steps.
Now I really should go shovel out a space for my car before the slush all freezes, because there's still lots of snow out there. I parked in someone else's shoveled out space. The place I normally park was empty because it would be so hard to get into with all that snow and slush in it. It's hard to get up the energy to go do that when Eor's already happily asleep. Also, I keep picturing me shoveling that all out, driving around the block to get into it, and finding someone else has already parked in it.
Bleh.
