So
bravecows tried it.
[19:08] oohalsoah: -- omg, doe! lapsang souchong!
[19:08] oohalsoah: it's awful :D
[19:09] derien3: hEEEEE!!!!
[19:09] oohalsoah: it iiiiis
[19:09] oohalsoah: it's like a mouthful of temple! :O
[19:09] derien3: matt's going "STINKY TEA!" He's delighted you agree with him!
...(snipped)...
[19:09] oohalsoah: it IS
[19:09] oohalsoah: ohmygosh
[19:10] oohalsoah: it's like a religious experience is what it is
[19:10] oohalsoah: NOBODY I KNOW WILL DRINK IT
[19:10] derien3: HEEE!!
[19:10] oohalsoah: i mean, have you ever been to a temple?
[19:10] derien3: Damn, I knew I was odd, but I didn't know I was actually THAT odd. :)
[19:10] derien3: No, I never have! :)
[19:12] oohalsoah: they burn incense, see
[19:12] derien3: "I don't think that's in the 'OHgod!, OHgod!' [type of religious experience]" says Matt, "More like in the 'ohGOD. ohGOD."
[19:13] oohalsoah: so there's this smoky smell, always
[19:13] oohalsoah: (MATT IS RIGHT OMG)
[19:13] derien3: Did you buy some yourself?
[19:13] oohalsoah: and when you hang around a temple for too long your throat gets all dry and uncomfy
[19:13] oohalsoah: and drinking this tea is EXACTLY LIKE THAT
[19:13] oohalsoah: it's a mouthful of temple!
[19:13] derien3: That sounds like really bad tea that's too strong!
[19:13] oohalsoah: well, i don't know
[19:14] derien3: I mean, the lapsang souchong I have doesn't give me a dry throat.
[19:14] oohalsoah: no, no, it doesn't give me a dry throat either
[19:14] oohalsoah: but the taste is like the smell of temple, y'know
[19:14] oohalsoah: -- anyway, i have a whole box (!) and i've only managed to palm off two bags on a friend
[19:14] oohalsoah: i made her drink it when she had a cold and couldn't smell anything anyway :)
[19:14] derien3: Oh gosh. :) Send it to me, then, if it's that bad! :)
[19:15] oohalsoah: i think it is probably quite good, actually. for lapsang souchong, i mean
...(snipped)...
[19:16] oohalsoah: i am drinking it now, anyway. 'cos i can't smell anything! :)
[19:16] derien3: hee! :)
[19:17] derien3: But, it doesn't ever seem to get oversteeped. At least, it seems that way to me. Now I'm a little hesitant to offer my opinions on food, you know, because... I guess my tastebuds are odd. :)
[19:17] oohalsoah: hm. it doesn't taste quite like tea. more like incense-flavoured water.
[19:18] derien3: Ah. Possibly it doesn't get oversteeped because it's ... not really tea. In a normal sense of ... tea.
...(snipped)...
[19:26] oohalsoah: it isn't bad, this stuff!
[19:26] oohalsoah: bizarre, but not bad
I pretty often hate it when other people post copied out bits of chat sessions which they think are funny, but I do find the jokes on me to be irresistable. ;) Besides, I love lapsang souchong and can never describe it, and bravecows pretty much described it. Not exactly in glowing, positive terms, but pretty accurately. :) Definetly an aquired taste. :)
And now, because I'm thinking of it, a blast from the past... Let's hop into the way-back machine and go back to 2003, when
jimdes was my co-worker and I brought Stinky Tea to work. His take on what The Boston Tea Party was really about(or "Jim writes fic for my tea").
