Uncle K is leaving, I think he said at the end of May. Another good manager gone. He's taking a significant pay cut to escape, but anyone would. However, it is offset by:
1) Relocation money - he can spend up to three months in a Residence Inn looking for a place, if he wants.
2) The job is on a Marine base in Florida, on an island, and they're giving him a boat to patrol around the island. Schaweet!
He'll be a police commander. It's so weird to me how the government will hire in civilians to do what used to be military jobs. (And yes, he used to be a cop and has lots of experience managing police, which is probably why his management style doesn't fit with TSA.)
WB, a screener who's been with us from the beginning, is getting done. We'll miss his very soft-spoken, easy-going attitude, and quiet, deadly (yet never mean) wit. He's the most gentlemanly (in all senses of the word) and intelligent ex-Marine anyone's ever met. ;)
CS, who, yes, we all teased (for his swaying walk, his naivety and shyness, and his fascination with continually buffing his body) but who we all liked, has not reported for work in ... well, I want to say close to two months. And the last thing anyone knew of him was that someone saw him in the Emergency Room with half his body numb. Uncle K says CS called him at one point and asked if he would need a dr.'s note to come back, and said he would bring one, but since then apparently has neither put in any documentation or even called to tell them anything. CeeJay said he was done, which I took to mean that he was keeping in touch, but now I hear that CeeJay actually hasn't heard anything, which annoys me - if he'd told me that I would have dug out CS's email address and written ages ago. I wish I had, anyway, and I feel like a jerk for not doing so, but ... you know. Things have been distracting me. So I did, just now.
CeeJay and ElvenGirl have still not decided on their wedding, but some of the ideas being tossed around include going to Vegas and getting an Elvis, going to Vegas and getting the pirate wedding and having the Elvis walk the plank, or flying to Milan to get married on top of some cathedral (that last was FIL's suggestion - he's a romantic). However, they have already gotten a joint bank account ("Because nothing says 'I Love You' like a joint bank account" as CeeJay explained) and ElvenGirl is doling out his allowance.:)
A Screener Representative from Boston is getting shipped around the Northeast to collect 'national issues' from the screeners in the various airports, but his function seems to be to tell us that none of our issues are 'national,' they're all local. His idea of a national issue was his own complaint that we don't get decent shoes given to us. We're all "Uh, suuure... a shoe allowance would be nice, but we've got much bigger problems, here." In short, we're not impressed.
I'm evilly trying to influence the guys in the TSA band toward ska by loaning them CDs.
Oh! And today is Book Club Breakfast! We moved it to Wednesday because someone wanted to since her day off changed, I think? In fact, I think that someone was our newbie who got sent to morning shift, so the only day she can go out for breakfast is her day off. If that's the case I hope she doesn't get offended that we chose to go to Poncho Villa this time, as she got rather annoyed with someone asking her to speak Spanish to passengers. (I think her first language may be Portuguese, but of course people in Maine hardly know the difference - it's all foreign to us.) The choice of restaurant was P.McG's, and had to have been completely coincidental since he also could not remember who it was who had wanted us moved to Wednesday. It doesn't work well for other people who's day off is Wednesday. JB and CW probably won't show up, since it's a long drive for them. Mistress of the Night usually might not, as she takes care of her little grandbaby on Wednesdays, but today she says she'll try to bring him. :)
ETA: The most exciting thing to happen to me is that I got to do filing of old spot forms last night. ;)
