Because I don't have patience for long polls, I took five questions from the not-really-200 question thing [livejournal.com profile] cheezdanish did.  Not the best five of the lot, just the first five that caught my eye.

> What was the last book you read?

Neil Gaiman - "Anansi Boys."  I liked it.

> When is bed time?

10pm or shortly thereafter, on weeknights.  It's kind of early, given
that I work until 8pm - I never have time to do anything in the
evenings.

> What was your first Screen name?

Doe.  But some idiot stole it, so I had to come up with Derien. (That
was back in the days of IRC when you could only have one person with a
certain name logged in at one time, so you had to reserve your nick if
you wanted it there when you logged on.  And this jerk just ignored the
messages from Nickserve and used my nick.)

> Your favorite Holiday is...?

Halloween.  I just always thought it was so fun to dress up. :)  But I
haven't gotten to in a while.

> What did you do last night?

Not much.  Cooked dinner, had two drinks and went to bed, I think.
We'd driven all over southern Maine and New Hampshire, hiking around
graveyards all day (planting flowers on grandparents graves and taking
pictures of the stones of anyone who might possibly be related to us),
I was beat.

--------------

So, yeah.  We did our yearly thing of delivering flowers to Eor's grandparent's graves, yesterday, and included my grandparents graves this year.  We never remember to find a trowel to dig the holes for the flowers, so we always end up taking a spoon to dig with - it's hard to break new ground with a tablespoon.  But somehow it's a really satisfying feeling to plant a flower to the dead.  In fact, I liked it so much that now I want to plant a tree there, if the people who run the cemetery would let me.  Eor's grandparents' cemetery is older and has big trees, and little white flowers in the grass.  It's so nice, shady and restful.  Whereas my grandparent's stones are baking in the sun.

We got geraniums for Eor's grandparents, and my grandfather (because he was a veteran) but a lavender plant for my grandmother, because Eor thought she would like something different, and I realized he was right. :)  (Eor's flowers ended up going to older stones of relatives because his cousin had already been there and planted a geranium, and he didn't want to mess with the symmetry of the single geranium.)

And we went to a few other cemeteries and took lots of pictures of stones.  Some of these people might be related to one or the other of us.

And today we got some things done that must be done on weekends, and then flew kites for like three hours.  Which was lots of fun. :)  There's a fine line between challenge and frustration, and I crossed back and forth on that line several times with my kite, but ... it was good.

And then we had ice-cream for dinner.

Sleep, now.

I had a dream with you in it last night. Weird since I've never met you! You were making art with a friend of mine who is a semi-famous artist.

Even weirder given that making art IS one of the very few things I might be tempted into doing with a complete stranger.
