Physical therapy kinda kicked my ass this morning.  It doesn't help that I started my period in earnest, yesterday.  Four Advil and a cup of coffee got me to where I felt safe driving the car.  I was not going to go home after I left Eor off at work, but my instinct just took me - at that point I had only had two Advil and had not had coffee, and my body was just insisting that I bolt for my burrow.  Twice I tried to consciously override my instinct and it just didn't work; I was pulling up at the curb in front of my building before I knew it.  So I gave in, and stayed for a half hour before having to go out again for PT, had more Advil and ate (yogurt and sawdust bars), and got the coffee when I was on my way out, again.

The physical therapist (a Mike) says I'm getting stronger, but that I will need to start doing other things on my days off.  Meaning, just walking an hour isn't enough, I also need to lift weight and do other things.  He can give me a regimen of about 45 minutes of exercises to follow, but I know me - I have a nearly impossible time getting myself to move if I stay in the house in the morning.  There's a couple of different ways I could attack this, I suppose.  I could just get out for a very short walk, early on, which might get my blood moving enough to think about doing the things he assigns - I might be able to lure myself out early in the morning if I promise myself a coffee.  Now, that sounds like the inexpensive way, because it would be the price of a cup of coffee every morning.  But all month?  That's like ... well, more than $30, because a coffee might be $1.50.  Or I could get myself a gym membership, which would be like $10 or $15.  Would I go?  Especially when it's rainy or cold - will I get myself out the door to go to the gym?  I don't know.  It seems more likely than getting myself to do things in the house, given my track record.

I wish I had formed a habit of doing exercise when I was young.  Of course when I was in high school we were building a house, so I was pretty packed with muscle just from after school and weekend working.  When I was in college I took dance classes and walked everywhere.  When Eor and I were living in New Hampshire, again, we were working on our house (residing, scraping and painting - those are amazing arm workouts).  But PT Mike says that I need to work more on the upkeep of my body, or I'm just not going to be strong enough to do the job I have, now.  I guess it's mainly because I'm older.

Oh, you young pups, listen to the lament of the old!  Take up exercise while you can, make it a habit, keep your bodies strong.  I know you don't think you have to - when you're young you don't have to, but if you don't start when you're young it's really hard to start when you're old.

Maybe look into dance classes again? If they're fun it might motivate you to get out. I did a beginning bellydance one a couple of years ago and it was great!

I looked into bellydance classes a few months ago, because I really want to do that, but there were none offered on weekday mornings, which is when I can do it. Oh yeah, it's actually harder to be fit if you have a non-normal work schedule - or health is reserved for the elite.

You are quite right, my dear, that having a house to work on is excellent exercise, and affords you with a great sense of accomplishment and pride of ownership; good for the spirit as well as the body. (There are lots of houses that could use a bit of this sort of work, here in Ohio, and they're pretty cheap too.) :)

Just how cheap are those "little Ohio houses"?

Oh, you had to ask! I currently have my eye on two, because they both have land:

5214 Wilkes Rd.

and

12038 Chamberlain Rd.

Are you ready to change your name from "LTA" to "LTO"?

:))

MapQuest says 29 minutes; from my understanding of the area, I believe it's more like 20 minutes... Here's the map!
