We arrived back about noon, yesterday, and after dumping everything out of the van we started right into our normal Sunday things: Check what needed doing in the garden, get foods for the week and cook our big meal for leftovers. Also we talked a LOT to Hawk about our experiences, and played some frisbee. :)
We had perfect weather, which, if you know us, is nearly unbelievable. It didn't rain! What we had instead was unending bugs. Mosquitoes, black flies, noseeums (The spellchecker says that's not a word but I don't know another name for them.), deer flies and moose flies. So I'm a little itchy. And of course have a single, small, specific but VERY PAINFUL sunburn in that tiny area on my shoulder which I missed with the sunscreen.
On the plus side, we made it up the mountain on our chosen trail. :) On the minus side, it was 1,000 foot shorter climb than last year (when we did the highest peak) and I found it MUCH harder. And I don't think this was because the trail was harder (though I suppose that's possible) but because my physical fitness level was not as good as last year. So, not so happy with that.
On the really plus side, we got up early Sunday and went out to the pond nearby where we were camping to see if we could get pics of a moose, AND WE DID! I hope to have them posted soon, but I swear it's true, they're real! And this is really odd if you know me, because I have the wildlife forcefield. I rarely see animals, and never moose. Eor says he never worries about hitting one when he's driving with me.
And today I've relocated a squirrel and a chipmunk, but not yet caught that darned woodchuck. What I heard today from the hardware store guys (who I talk to whenever I have a chance) is that you have to transport squirrels across running water wide enough so that there are no branches they can jump across on, and at least five miles. I think I've found almost the perfect place - the DeLorme offices (http://www.delorme.com/ http://www.delorme.com/mapstore/default.aspx). I have to cross water to get there, it's about five miles, they have a nice little wood and a picnic table for their breaks where the chipmunk and squirrel can beg and be made much of. :)

But seeing a moose though! That is so amazing! This is from someone who still gets a thrill from remembering the time a saw a moose sign when I was in Finland. Yes, I am that lame.
