I'm going to be one of about five women left on the afternoon shift, pretty soon. Well, no, wait, there's that new girl who's not done training, yet. Blah. I know they're already moving some women from morning shift, but ... well, let us just say that morning shift has had issues keeping women which go beyond the usual, and that with the move of women from morning shift I don't expect my life to get easier.
Jaylow already left, Diz went out for knee surgery a few days ago, ElvenGirl's last day was Wednesday, the Motorcycle Granny is leaving at the end of next week, the Goosing Grandma is going out for knee surgery "sometime this fall," and The Flirty One's last day is the 9th. (She's giving me an extra dose of flirt before she goes, making sure to stand very close whenever she could, last night, and suggesting we should run ourselves through the x-ray together on her last day. ;))
ElvenGirl is the one I'm really going to miss out of the current crop. She's been here since the beginning, she's smart, tough, outspoken - a champion for us as the workers - and about the only other person I know here besides Eor and myself who reads Terry Pratchett. (She took him up after I forced one of the Witch books on her but now she's set a goal of buying and read them all in order of publication.) Yeah, she can be prickly on occasion or take against a particular person and make life difficult for them, but I've always thought it worthwhile to try to smooth her ruffled feathers. I won't go to much effort that way for most people. :)
Now it's official - all the other women I came in with have left or been promoted, at least on the PM shift. I just looked at the first schedule list from September of 2002 and confirmed it for myself. I don't want to be promoted, but am I just stupid not to have already left?
