Emboldened by all the comments from you all, and using
holyschist's comment about donating to the ACLU being what Jesus would do, I wrote a letter back to that particular person. I had intended it to be a quick note, but I ended up rather impassioned. He responded back with an email which he had obviously taken some time on and thought about, and, and... wow. I can't find words. It was cool.
I'm going to quote his last paragraph, because descriptive words fail me and I might as well let him speak for himself...
[Derien], most people around you, and I include myself here, don't spend much time thinking or trying to understand. And most seem to lack respect for anyone not in their personal circle. While at TSA, I saw you struggling with that reality on a number of occasions. What I learned is that, although I may not agree with an opinion of yours, I always know you will have come by that opinion honestly.
Sometimes unburdening your soul can be really good.

Wow, that's so nice. I'd love to think that people might think that about me, but I doubt it. I'm way too argumentative I suppose. Anyway, isn't it great, when you're kind of worried about saying something, but you psych yourself up and do it, and then it turns out better than expected? :)
Oh yeah, and we DO have a non-religious greeting here which I forgot about when we were talking about this recently: Seasons Greetings! It even has a slightly pagan whiff off it. It's not really something people say pout loud though. People write it, and you'd hear it on ads where they're trying to be quaint and olde worlde.
