I lived through the tests.  Didn't even pass out, though it would have been a mercy if I could have.  That was some of the worst pain I've ever experienced under controlled conditions.  The snips she took out of my cervix didn't hurt at all, I didn't even feel them, but when she went for the core sample of the endometrial lining I went directly from nonchalant to shrieking with nothing in between.  It was a bit surprising to both of us.  I ended up fifteen minutes late to work because I had to go get a hot chocolate after that.  I was limp like a dishrag, and hurting for most of the rest of the day.  It still doesn't feel quite right to me.

Several people (co-workers, ex-coworkers, ex-classmates) who I've talked with today have been very encouraging about their or their family member's similar situations, so I'm not as worried as I was at first.  That's how I deal with things - I talk about it to everyone who'll hold still, and gather every scrid of anecdotal information I can, and it usually makes me feel better.

Yeah.  So.  Now it's just the teeth to look forward to.  Yay, an excuse to eat lots of ice-cream! ;)

PS ETA - Mammogram is scheduled for January 31. ;)

Yee-OWCH! Definitely not pleasant.

With anything like that I tend to fill up on painkillers beforehand, just in case.

I followed the dr's recommendation of four ibuprophin beforehand, which is probably why the samples of the cervix didn't hurt. Maybe it just wasn't quite enough for the uterus... or maybe I shouldn't have had double-strength tea. I find caffiene comforting, but it does encourage muscle cramps.

Not having a uterus, I don't know, but couldn't they use whatever it is that takes the sample to apply a local anaesthetic before they do the ouchy bits?

I'm wibbling in anticipation, because if my current urine sample comes back positive for blood once again, they're going to do a cystoscopy. I can't say that I like the idea of them pushing a long wiggly tube up my penis into my bladder :(

Getting tests done to your various lady parts is one of the worst parts of being a woman, I think. I'm still slightly traumatized by Baby's First Mammogram and Pap Smear.

I've gotten pretty used to paps - I've done one every year since I was in high school. I hope you don't mind my asking, but why would they give you a mammmo at your age? Every time I've asked about one, previously, they've said I shouldn't bother until I was 40 because the normal breast tissue would be too dense, when younger, to see anything useful. I've always been concerned at the way my breasts are so unequal in size and the larger one tends to be painful quite often.

During a physical, my doctor detected what she thought was a lump (I was never able to feel what she had found, though). They tried to get by with just a breast ultrasound, but after not finding anything, they did the mammogram to be sure. It turned out to be nothing, but it sure did hurt. I actually found the mammogram to be a more painful procedure than the pap.

Oh, everyone I've ever talked to says mammograms are quite painful, so you're in good company there. Seeing as my left breast hurts all the time, anyhow, I'm expecting this to be loads of amusement. *eyeroll*

Oh, god, reading that made my stomache ache just thinking about it.

Glad you're ok.
