Just got back from the dentist's - had a small filling - and half my face is numb.  Our dentist (Eor goes to him, too) is so funny - he asked me what I was reading and I told him, "Philip Pullman, His Dark Materials series.  'The Golden Compass' -"

"And 'The Subtle Knife'!  I loved those ones!"

As I was leaving he asked me to wait a few more minutes so he could look up the name of an author he wanted to recommend to me - Robin Hobb, and he also had to write down George R. R. Martin. :)

He's great. :) And man didn't he go ON about how Pullman has issues with the Catholic church - he seemed tickled by that. :)

I'm doing my annual re-reading of all the robin hobb books, as we speak! Since I was 12, whenever I'm feeling particularly self-pitying, I like to read those books and indulge my adolescent fantasies of self-abuse and revenge/reunition.
Hooooray, Robin Hobb!
Except for that "no-fan-fiction" rule. Grumble.

I might have read something by her, but I suspect that the no-fan-fiction rule might be why I really don't know much about her. I gain new authors via fanfiction quite often.
