I just realized I never even mentioned that we went to Rockland this weekend.
So, we went to Rockland this weekend.
I had asked for Thursday off a while back when I'd hoped that my brother was going to stop down here and spend the night, and was grateful to have it even after it developed that he wouldn't have time and would in fact have to meet up with us and Dad at our Aunt's house in Rockland, because that meant I would have some chance of getting my weekend chores and errands done. Then I thought I would be leaving early in the morning to go up there and spend the whole day, returning home in the evening. Then found out Hawk had planned otherwise and had actually already cleared it with our Aunt that we would stay overnight there so as to go out in the evening.
Having your plans suddenly rearrainged multiple times is always disorienting, but we finally settled on taking the van up and 'camping' in the driveway at our Aunt's house. :) And after all we ended up not going out, but it was a very enjoyable evening and we saw relatives we hadn't seen in years and also hung out in the van at the end of the evening listening to music and talking music.
And Hawk's new girlfriend is a lovely, sweet girl, very chipper and laid-back. I was surprised, as she wasn't quite what I expected, but I'll bet she's just right for him, actually. She's also very tall - 6'2", and inch taller than him.
I must here do an installment of Adventures With Dad, one of Hawk's stories which he told us partly to let his girlfriend know what sort of thing she might be letting herself in for in agreeing to go boating with our father.
Dad and Hawk took one of Dad's boats out on Casco Bay a few years ago. The boat started taking on water after a while, and shortly it became evident that they could not make it to shore without bailing, but they had nothing to bail with. They pulled ashore on a small, uninhabited, island and began searching for something to bail with and shortly, very luckily, found a bleach bottle. Then they had to deal with the fact that they had no knives with them.
Hawk picked up a clam shell, sharpened it on a rock, cut the bottom off the bleach bottle, and, bailing with that, they made it back to shore.
