I've just finished the final Harry Potter book, and now I want ALL the opinions and fic that I had set aside for fear of spoilers!

(Yes, I'm home sick from work, and hoping to get some some sleep as well as some things done at some point, but I finished the book and I need to know.)

I hope all your HPatDH entries are tagged with the same tag so I can find them.

ETA:

Putting a spoilery question about the final battle in the comments - please look it up to discuss.

ETA yet again - so, this would be book #31) "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" - J.K. Rowling.

I thought it was a shame that poor old Snape died thinking that all his work had been for naught. Poor old Snape, my favourite character. Back a few years ago when I was mad into HP I thought "Snape loves Lily" was the most lazy, fanbratish invention in the fandom. I coudln't have imagined (or expected) a worse thing becoming canon. I had heard the spoilers about that but I still didn't believe them. I was pleasantly surprised then when I read it that JKR didn't particularly use that plot device to humiliate Snape. He was creepy, yes, but she didn't make it completely pathetic on his part.

She did redeem a few baddies. Kreacher was a completely unexpected (by me) redemption but I'm still quite sure if it was beleivable. I did expect a few from Slytherins to help out in the Battle of Hogwarts when McGonnagle called on them to, but I suppose you can't count on Slytherins to join a battle until the outcome is decided.

the Malfoys were ok though not particularly exciting. It was nice to get more insight in the Craco/Crabbe/Goyle relationship.

See? I only care about the baddies!

Actually I liked how the main focus of the book was about the R/H/H friendship. That was nice and oldschool. Hermione (my fave of the trio) did act out of character in one or twice though. I can't remember it exactly, but she said something hypocritical and Harry noticed it. I suppose JKR was at pains to point out that all three had flaws. As if we hadn't noticed!

Harry was obnoxious and desperately, desperately stupid. That bit where he got them all caught bacause he insisted on saying the name just made him out to be the biggest blockhead in the book.

My prediction for the non-existent future of the HPverse: Albus Severus Potter will be The Good Slytherin; a nice, quiet, pleasant and polite lad, but an arch-realist with a driving ambition to be... I dunno, I'm not writting a mini HP fic now. I always sucked at fanfic.

Now. That's my fist time writing down any of my thoughts about that book. Sorry if it's muddled/moronic!

Snape's death was really one of the cruelest parts about this book. I wish there could have been some way for him to live. But his being in love with Lily... Well. I don't know as I like it so much, but whatever. I'd rather he were choosing Dumbledore's side because he really had a change of heart and wanted the sorts of things Dumbledore was aiming for, rather than some long-lost love being his only motivation. Even so, I wish he could have lived. I really thought that Eor's idea, that Snape actually hated Lily MORE than he hated James, because he humiliated him by saving him from the Marauders, made a lot more sense.

Draco holding Goyle in the burning room was kind of cool. :)

The Malfoys confused me. They really weren't very good Death Eaters if they cared about their own kid that much. I was okay with Narcissa's actions, but I was not convinced by Lucius.

Kreacher was the coolest ever redemption, I was very pleased with that. :)

I was also confused by the spiders - I thought sure they would fight on the good guys side when it came down to it, because of Hagrid's influence.

None of the Slytherins helped at all? I got confused in all the battling - it went on so long. I thought Slughorn came back and helped at some point. But, then again, I can't believe in the Slytherins being all bad. I'm surprised that Harry hadn't already told his son, before he went away to school, about Snape, because if he had Snape in mind when he put the Sorting Hat on Albus Severus Potter might well become the nicest Slytherin.

Harry WAS pretty stupid.

Slughorn helped yes. I should have said none of the students helped.

Don't me wrong! I didn't like a bit of Snape/Lily! I'm just glad JKR didn't use it to humiliate my Snape.

My Spoilery Question...

Okay, I'm confused about this business of Harry saying that the Elder Wand had been captured by someone who never touched it. I thought at first he was just lying to confuse Voldemort, and I wondered why Voldemort was distracted by the lie without any supporting evidence.

Could Draco be considered to have captured it because Snape was acting for him? But that doesn't really fly because Snape was acting on Dumbledore's orders, which was why killing Snape did not give Voldemort full possession of the wand. In what way could Draco have been considered to have bested Dumbledore?

What have I forgotten or missed?

Re: My Spoilery Question...

Oh, huh, good question. I thought maybe Draco disarmed Dumbledore, but he didn't, did he? But he did have Dumbledore cornered, wandless (I think), and helpless. So maybe that counts as besting him. Hm.

Re: My Spoilery Question...

Did he? You both seem to remember it, so maybe he did. It might have been helpful if JKR had brought it up again for slow-brainers like me.

Re: And a spoilery comment

And I'm so glad of that, because it's just right for his character. :) I totally wanted him to be the one to actually kill Voldemort, even though I was sure he wouldn't get that honor, but he's been such a cool character, but so quiet and in the background, for so long, and I just adore him. He's the quiet guy with the spring-steel core, the type I've always loved.

give Neville blow jobs ficlets are

a fantastic idea and made of 100% wonderfulness.... *is enthralled* I can't respond to them all, it would be the same response - "Oh, cool!"

I forgot all about Dudders till I read Mizzmarvel's comments there! That was the only bit of the book which made me squee out loud. So cute. I love redemption of baddies.

Neville was cool too of course and even though I love them both, I'm glad JKR chose not to pair up Neville and Luna. That would have been too (typically) lazy and obvious. Plus even though they are both awesome it stinks of pairing up the weirdo losers. Buuut it didn't happen so I can calm down.
