I'm reading another of these books at the mo and it's awesome. Unfortunately I expected it to be like Borders, i.e. a couple of short stories that you could read and not worry too much about where they fall in the timeline. But it's a novel (Memory) and Miles is 30(!!) in it, so you can imagine how many spoilery scrapes he got into in that span of time.
You can have it of course, when I've read it, but you might want to read them in chronological order.
I think I have read almost all of them, although I gave my copies to my Mom and now they are gone, so I read "Memory," and really liked it a lot. That doesn't mean I wouldn't read it again, and possibly now is the time to do it, so I can discuss it with you while it's still fresh in your mind! I didn't read them all right in order, but Bujold is really good about giving you only enough information for this story but not enough to spoiler the previous story. It was really creepy wondering what had happened to Elena Bothari's mother, with all the hints you pick up in the other books. I'm not sure that they were actually written and released in chronological order - in fact some of them I know were not.
Hm, actually, I should look and make sure I don't have a copy of it. I have "Barrayar" and "Mirror Dance," I think, that I read years ago and have more recently picked up at my local second-hand store.
I've never seen any of her books in a shop in Ireland, second hand or otherwise. Of course I've only gotten into her very recently. Thank goodness for you (and ebay, where I also purchased Miles Mystery and Mahem, which seems to have some of the same stories as Borders of Infinity and a few of her other non-Vorkosigan books on impulse)
I've only read one of her other non-Vorkosigan books (something about a ring) and I'll bet if I wasn't already a fan and expecting some certain things from her I'd have liked it. But I love the societies she creates, with their fucked up interactions, and in that book she didn't create any - she tried to stay reasonably true to Renaissance Italian culture. So I found it boring. However, apparently she's doing a fantasy series, now, I guess it's called The Sharing Knife series, in which she does create more different cultures, and I think I'd like to get into that one. I just have so many billion books lined up to read at the moment that I don't feel right buying into a new series.
