One of the newbies at work called me "Dorothy" the other day. Or tried to, because of course it wasn't effective. I heard someone yelling, "Dorothy! Dorothy!" and I thought, "That's interesting. There's a name you don't hear much these days. Probably a woman about eighty years old who's left her boarding pass lying around and they're trying to get her to come back to get it. Wait, there was no woman that old in that line..." and then someone told the newbie my actual name and he called me.

It's time for Dorothy to be coming back as a name, don't you think? Probably it will, but I'd have thought anyone would look at me and just know I'm not the right age to be a Dorothy. I'm either too young or too old. Of course I'm actually a little too old to be of the Moonbeam type names, too, but that's really what I am. Although my parents didn't want to sound too non-traditional, so they made up a name that sounded like it fit with older names, so I'm a Moonbeam vaguely disguised as a Dorothy.

You actually know three people named Dorothy? Wow.

I wonder if Ozzy is just because she went to Oz...?

That would be so cute if that was where they came up with the nickname from. My grandmother is called Bridgid on her birth cert but everyone calls her Birdie. Bridie is very common for old ladies here but she's the only Birdie I know.

Heheh, Molly-house...
